Electric Problem with car

I have a 1982 Ford crownvic the battery kept going down so the battery was replaced, it still had the problem so I replaced the starter cyl. thinking that was the problem, but after the car was shut off, it would not start up again. Is the problem with the Battery or Alt.

Take the alternator off and bring it to autozone. They will test it for free. If you have a digital multimeter you can put it on the alternator. should get 13.5 14.5 volts

Easywind is correct. Also chances are good there is a bad voltage regulator as well. Change it at the same time you do the alternator. It's mounted on the fender on most Fords of that vintage.
