alternator

I have a 91 dodge monaco these things are hard on alternators it has 145000 miles and it looks like it is going on it's fourth alternator. None of the alternator's lasted more than 51000 miles. The battery is newer. I start the car up and the red light comes on in the dash for about a minute then goes off. I will be on the highway and slow down to get off and the red light will go on for about 5 seconds. It comes on when I am driving but only for a few seconds. What do you guys think?

Most parts store and aftermarket rebuilds are of poor quality. Get a Mopar/Chrysler rebuilt from the dealer $$$$$ but it will probably outlast the vehicle.

Make sure the drive belt is in good condition as well. If questionable, change it when you change the alternator.
