2000 caviler gas flow problems

can anyone tell me an easy way to check gas flow? The car will run when I drop a little gas into the carb but it sputters and dies after about 5 seconds or so. There is a noise (hum) coming from where I expect the gas pump is (by the gas tank) but I am expecting that there is no flow. Thanx

Head to Autozone and get a fuel pressure gauge. They will rent you one for free. Tell us what you regulated fuel pressure is.
