1998 Escort A/c Problem

1998 ESCORT ZX2 - 4 CYL, AUTOMATIC. A/C WASN'T WORKING. I HAVE NO CURRENT FROM THE ORIGINAL WIRES GOING TO THE COMPRESSOR - I HAVE CHECKED WITH A TEST LIGHT. I DO HAVE CURRENT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PRESSURE SWITCH. WITH A DIRECT 12VOLT WIRE TO COMPRESSOR SYSTEM WORKS AND COOLS FINE. SYSTEM IS CHARGED. ANY THOUGHTS - ARE THERE ANY FUSES I CAN CHECK?

How do you know it's adequately charged?

I ASSUMED THE SYSTEM WAS CHARGED BECAUSE IT WORKS GREAT WHEN I HAVE THE DIRECT WIRE ATTACHED.

You may have a fusible link or inline fuse that's blown. Get a hold of a wiring diagram and track it down to find it.

On a car this new it could be the pcm also.I don't have wiring shematics for your car so I can't tell for sure.It could be as simple as a broken wire in between.
