93 escort engine problem

A while back I had posted this as a vibration problem. It is in fact the engine misfireing and running erratic. Yes its alot worse than before, stalls , surges, misses badly. I went ahead thinking it was in the ignition system and replaced the Idle controller (aic), module, TPS, crank position sensor, mass airflow sensor, coil pack, wires ,plugs. Nothing changed I'm thinking of tossing the EEC-IV. Can anyone tell me where its located in the car? If anyone has any other sugestions or thoughts they are well apreciated. Tested all the hoses for vacumm leaks too. The only thing I found were a few loose screws on the intake manifold. It does have its moment when it runs normal, 5 to 10 seconds, then goes nuts again.

Do both a wet and dry compression test. You may have a late or weak valve.

Whoa Nelley on throwing parts at the problem---you've already spent more than this sucker could be worth

Didn't get to do the compression test today either. But , the car is running properly now. I didn't do anything but drive it on the highway at 70 or so for about 40 miles. when I exited I realized it wasn't knocking, missing, surging, nothing Nada . . . It just idled and transitioned as if nothing was ever wrong with it. Joe I do have a tappet clapping but thats it right now. Could it still be a valve problem or (I'm thinking) a bad circuit or harness ?
The only codes I recieved where a bad intake air temp sensor. The running codes where "unable to complete test due to air conditioning being operated, which it wasn't, and unable to complete test due to vehicle being in drive, not true either.
