electrical 6v vs12v system

gentleman :
I just picked up a 49 lincoln coupe. it is a 6 volt system with a gen and regulator. The question is can I put a 12 volt battery in the vehicle. and still keep the rest of the system 6 volt?
Being the added accesories which are elec shaved doors solinoids, cd player radio,
Or if I put a12 volt Battery and alt in it would that be the way to go.
and what do I do about the volt regulator????
If you have any input to overcome this problem please e- mail me at [email protected]. thanks Bobby

Check a place like JC Whitney. They would have 12V conversion kits.

6 volt parts with 6 volts, 12v parts with 12v. DO NOT mix parts.

Also, 1949 wiring was likely cloth lined and very brittle at this stage of the game. I'd look for a new harness.

putting a 12 volt battery and alternater would be the way to go as per the voltage regulator i would buy an alternater with the regulator already built into the alternater,an older delco that fits mid 70's till about mid 80s gm cars are quite easy to wire up and are internally regulated however you would have to fabricate a bracket to mount it most likely.
