1988 Mercury Sable oil fiter;

1988 Mercury Sable oil fiter;

I'm 70 years old and I want to replace my oil filter.I bought this auto a few months ago.I can't seem to find the location of the filter on the engine.It's a Mercury Sable w/V6 engine.Can any one tell me the location of it on the engine?Thanks,cecil35.

Two different V6's that year a 3.0 or a 3.8.

Best recollection, 3.0 is right in the front of the motor about in the middle under the exhaust manifold.

3.8 is on an angle roughly in the same place, more to the right.

Hopefully you have the 3.0 in this car, because the 3.8 is a collosal piece of junk riddled with problems .

88 Mercury sable oil fiter location.

Thanks Joe, you give me what I wanted. I do have a 3.0 engine hope I won't have the problems ypu mentioned of the 3.8 type.RGDS,Cecil.

It is my recollection that both engines use the FL400A.
