Elactrical - headlights

We have a 1999 Ford Windstar, automatic, 6 cyl, 3.8 l engine. The problem we are having at this time, is the switch for the headlights is not working. Basically you cannot turn off the lights at all. It is like the switch has disconnected. What can we do to fix this ourselves? The instrument lights are on as well. Luckily the lights cut out when we shut off the engine. My husband checked all the fuses. Any suggestions would help.

Check the headlight switch for shorts, and replace it with an OEM switch. See if autolibrary.org has anything to guide you.
