Check your brake light switch; it may be out of adjustment. That usually controls the release solenoid.

Question tranny/brakelight switch

I checked the switch and its acting all funky, its seems like there may be to much play in the cable thats connected to it nevertheless the switch clicks eraticly when you apply brake sometimes releasing the shifter but more often not. Are there any adjustments that can be made if so can you tell me how to do it?

Do your brake lights work properly? If not, definitely throw out the switch for a new one.

Check the adjustment of the switch, try moving it in and out.

Beyond that, you'd have to test the switch electrically. Use autolibrary to guide you, beyond that a service manual is needed.

Check to make sure the shifter linkage is not out of adjustment.
