Automatic Transmission Problem
On a '99 explorer xlt, the transmission wont shift into drive unless the fluid is really hot or you rev it to about 5,000 rpm.Any idea why?

unless the fluid is low, your not fixing it without a scan tool, you need to read the fault codes and find out what the computer is doing to not shift it. no other way i know of.
it could be a sensor, computer, a broken wire or a bad trans. guessing is expensive and wasteful, pull the 'trans' codes and see where they lead you.
if anyone says it needs a new trans, get a second opinion no matter how reputable the shop/"chain-store"/dealer/garage is.
very burn't fluid is usually the final nail in the coffin though
