transmission fluid

My husband is currently trying to change the transmission fluid in our 97 Ford Escort. I need to know how many quarts are supposed to go into this thing. Thanks.

Approximately 4 qts. Should be able to find the correct amount in your owner's manual. If not, put 4 qts in, run it until warm, and check it on the dipstick as usual.

Check your owner's manual as well as autolibrary.org below.

Failing either having what you want, get a service manual or alldata.com subscription for the capacities or call the dealer and ask.
