toyota corolla starter

I want to rebuild my starter myself, but I can't find instructions on how to do it in the internet. Chilton's book only shows how to take it apart. My dad said something about brushes, or the brush spring, but he's getting pretty old and it's hard to get direct information from him. This is a 1990 toyota carolla front wheel drive, manual transmission. Everyone in town wants between 70.00 and 150.00 for a replacement, but I think I can do it myself cheaper. I'v put in a solenoid before, but it was separate from the starter, and in this car it is combined. Could you give me instructions?

These can be tricky to do. Get a Toyota reman starter and be done with it. The parts to rebuild it will exceed the time, effort, and value of doing it yourself.

The only book that has how to service the starter is the OEM Toyota manual.
