What could make a loud rattling noise in the front end whenever I hit a bump or small ridge in the road?
Could it be the tie rod ends? shocks? struts? ball joints? help!
Also what could cause the front end to grind whenever I turn the wheels either way?

Mileage? Has any work been done on the front end?

Many of the front end bushings are notorious problems on these T/Bird/Cougar pairs.

No, there hasn't been any work done on the front end, someone told me that it might be the sway bar.
But it doesn't make the noise in reverse.

It does sound to me like the sway bar bushings. A fairly easy do-it-yourself job.
Having said that though, you should have a professional check the whole front end out just to be safe.
