81 Chevette

I have an 81 chevette with standard brakes and sometimes they brake and sometimes they don't.When they don't, the brake light will light up. Also it has a big hole rusted through on the drivers side floor, any idea how to fix that?

The floor has to have a patch panel welded into it to be right. You could rivet in a new panel, but it's likely going to be a short lived repair.

As for the brakes, sounds like hydraulic failure (a leak). Find and repair the cause at once. Dangerous condition.

check for leaks if you don't find any and the fluid is full you need a master cylinder.

Good advice. Since it is intermittent I will bet on a bad master cylinder.
