2000 jeep cherrokee

my display on my overhead console that displays the miles and gas milage......does not seem to want to work. it will work once in a great while. why??? Is it a fuse and if yes witch one?

a grand cherokee or a shoe-box cherokee(a square type xj body)

if the fuse was bad, it would always be bad, meaning the console would never work, also a bunch of other stuff wouldn't be working either

what i would do is lower the display down and unplug and replug it (it is it's own mini 'computer') this might reset it. while it's unplugged, i would check for power on two wires, the one from the ign switch and constant power, then verify the ground wire. the rest is just communications wire as this module is on the 'bus' (communication network) with the rest of the vehicle.

not much else you can do without a scan tool, sorry

Also, make sure you check alldata.com for any bulletins/trouble spots that may point you to the problem (if any exist).
