Installing new clutch in 98 Escort

Installing a new clutch kit to a 98 Ford Escort Zx2, can't remove transmission, does the trans. have to be in neutral to remove?

Shouldn't make any difference. You've got all the connecting parts removed and the mount bolts off, but it won't come free of the bellhousing?

I agree. It may just be stuck.

I'd say rap it a few times with a rubber mallet, probably stuck or binding on the dowel/guide pins. They fit darn tight sometimes.

I'd bet you've missed a bolt somewhere. Look in the back corners near where the starter would be on most vehicles. they usually hide one in the corner there.
