1998 Ford Expedition Transmission problem

I just hit 100,000 miles on my 1998 Ford Expedition E.B. 4X4.
This morning I stoped at the gas station and couldn't put it in park. Then I noticed that it was in park even though the lever was at the "reverse" position. N was Reverse. D was nuetral and 2 was drive. Is this a major transmission problem or something that should be easy to fix?

Sounds like either the linkage is off or the indicator wire is out of adjustment.

Any good shop should be able to fix it. Likely has nothing to do with the function of the tranny per se.
