Hood Release 98 Blazer

Hey, I have a 98 blazer and the hood release has a hard time releasing the hood. At first I thought the cable was frayed so I took it to the dealer because I didn't want to deal with it. They said that it was just sticky and they sprayed it with White Lithium I presume. Well a month or two later and it's stuck again, I sprayed it but it's kind of gummy now. Worse, it'll open but then I can't shut it. The latch is really gummed up. What is the proper way to clean this, and lubricate it?

Thanks

aerosol white lithium is as good as any. Get you some rags so you dont make a mess, either use brake clean or PB blaster and it should clean up. Also grease the hood pin some. I clean and lube mine 2 or 3 times a year whether it needs it or not. Same with door latchs and anything else that moves. A frequently neglected item on a veh.

Agree with Darrell. Lubriplate usually works fine. See what the owner's manual wants. There is usually a what to lubricate what component chart in most books.
