98` gmc sierra, 1/2 ton 4.3LT vortec FI

I recently noticed on my trock that the rpm`s are unusually high for the speed I`m driving. Normally, I would hit 70 at about 2000 rpm and 80 at about 2300. Now at 70 its almost at 2500 rpms.
It will go back and forth, one minute it works fine and the next it doesn`t. I think it could be the torque converter or lock out. please advise. THANK YOU .

It sounds like the converter is disengaging,it's normal if you are accellerating to a certain degree.Autozone can check for codes for you free.Do that and let us know. Are you sure it wasn't like this before and you just noticed now,it may be normal for your truck.
