98 Ford Escort Engine Running Hot

I have a 1998 Ford Escort, and recently as I'm driving, the "Tempature" instrument gauge is going to hot. The first time it happened, I pulled over, let it sit for about five minutes and when I restarted it, it went back to normal.

Yesterday it happened, and I turned off my AC unit while driving, and it went back to normal.

Today it happened again, and even though I turned off the AC unit, it remained at hot.

The car has plenty of oil, although I do have an oil leak. Also, I noticed some smoke coming from a tube that is connected to something that says, "PC Valve". The smoke is coming from the connection into that PC Valve.

I know this is not enough information to full troubleshoot, but was wondering if someone could help troubleshoot further. I can provide a picture of where the smoke is coming from if needed.

Thanks

Have you checked the coolant level? Do you lose any coolant? With your car sometimes turning on the A/C will make it run cooler. Is your coolant fan working? It should stay on all the time with the A/C on. Is the smoke your seeing possibly from coolant dripping onto exhaust?
