96 grand am transmission

I think I need to replace the transmission. There is a grinding noise when I put it into reverse. It is a 4 cyl automatic. Any suggestions?

If it doesn't move in reverse or you have metal in the pan you probably do need one.Check your engine mounts and for components hitting causing the noise.I f it's driveable let a trans shop hear it they will know.

I agree with DAVO.If trans feels ok check motor mount. If this is a QUAD-4 motor the motor mount on the passenger side can sag and cause a bad growl and vibration that shakes the whole car.Good luck.Rick
