blower motor repair

blower motor shorts out when turning on switch. 2000 pontiac grand am se. what do i look for. i have replaced fuses. problem continues

What do you mean the motor shorts out?Do you mean it doesn't turn or it always blows the fuse?Is it cold where you live?Did the blower just start doing this after a cold spell?If it's blowing the fuse unplug the blower motor and hit the switch and see if the fuse blows.If it doesn't the blower motor is bad or jammed by debris or possibly ice.If it still blows you have a short and will need a wiring diagram.

If the motor "bushings" are seized, you may be able to salvage that part. The front bushing is pretty easy to re-oil, drill the back bushing cap with a small drill, reoil and plug the hole with a rubber nipple. I have salvaged several this way.
