fuel leak on top of tank

I have a 1990 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9L engine.
I noticed that I have a fuel leak at the top of my fuel tank. It only leaks when the truck is running. I know that it could be a line leak or the sending unit ontop of the tank. My biggest problem is I have a 1/2 tank of gas and cannot get a hose down the filler hose to drain it.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it out.
Someone told me to cut a hole into the bed of the truck to access the top of the tank, like thats going to happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It depends what part of the country you live in. I live in northern IL and removing fuel tanks from a 14 year old truck can be difficut, best left to a pro because rust can give you problems. if you attemt it yourself we lower the tank down with gas still in it. not a very big tank so 1/2 tank is not heavy

It might be easier to remove the bed, usually between 6-10 bolts and the tail lite harness. You would be surprised how easy it comes off.
