locking lug nut removal

Heya..

Got a car with a locking lug nut, we've got the key, but it's so rounded it won't stay in.

Need to remove the wheel to replace the caliper.

Any suggestions on removing the lug nut?
We don't have a welder or anything like that.

It depends what kind of locks they are but most tire companies have tools for doing that. The easiest way is to just order another key if you still have the code.

If all else fails, get a socket that will slip onto the end of the lock and pound it on with a hammer. Then use a ratchet or an impact and take it off. There is a special tool just for this and it is not really that expensive. You can get it at Harbor Freight if you have one near you. I think it was around $30.00 but that may be a bit much for a one time use. Like Desi said most shops will have this tool and for a small fee will take the lugs off for you.
Hope this is helpful to ya,
Billy

We used the hammered on socket method and it worked.
Destroyed a perfectly good 13/16 craftsman socket though.

Thanks for the tip.

Good job!

Bring it back to Sears, they will replace it!
