Chevy casting numbers and building
Hey, I need a little help with a motor I have layin around. I am trying to find parts for my engine build for my 89 suburban. I am looking for more than the stock 195 hp but want to keep the gas mileage near the whopping 11mpg it is now.
Block # 10243880 and Heads #10110810
I can't find the block # anywhere? The heads are Gen 1, can anyone tell me what that means. CC size, valve size?
I am keeping the TBI unless I can find better for cheap. I am looking for low and mid power as I have large tires and tow a race trailer quite often. Any parts suggestions??? I know how to get 500hp, but have never had to keep mileage in mind.
edit: the correct # for block, batauto gave me gen1 or ZZ4, 2 or 4 bolt main and one piece rear

That sounds like the number stamped on the front of the block. What is the number cast into the pad on the rear of the block on the left side above the tranny bellhousing?

Now that I have the right numbers and have done a litle more research. What is the difference in the blocks from an 89 350 to a 95 350? Are the HP increases from the block at all or in the heads, cam and fuel injection (TBI vs. MPI or TPI)
