1965 Lincoln steering problem

'65 Lincoln Continental drives pretty good normally, but when the car is in reverse and the wheel is turned about 30 degrees either direction, it will shift the car back into drive. Backing up straight is no problem, but turning the wheel in reverse is. Any ideas?

You might want to take a look at the motor mounts. Those older cars sometimes used a pivet bar that was connected to the frame on one end and the motor on the other. If the engine moves, it would pull on the linkage. Just a guess though.
