Noise in engine
I have a 1983 Ford Ranger, 2.3 V6 Engine, C-3 Trans.
it sounds like a Diesel when running, Oil pressure, Level fine
was told i need to replace the lifters and the noise will stop, Is this the case or is something else wrong ? Have seen a few older Rangers with the same sound, i know this is not normal, Other than the noise, truck runs Ok .
The motor allways seems to work alot harder than the Trans. Which is Rebuilt (not long ago) or can i put another Transmission
in
Also considering a swap, Thinking of putting a 302 in, i know i would have to swap Trans,Drive Shaft & Rear End
Would this work, Fit, Ect....Thanks in advance for N E help & Suggestions.....

Forget the 302 swap. You can't get the correct computer and wiring harness to do that in a ranger. It just won't work, unless your and electrical engineer.
As for the noise, how's your oil pressure?

rear end ?
I explained about how it sound as if the motor(2.8V6Ford)
is working harder than the Trans. (C-3)
I was told that if i change the rear end in the truck it would improve, The Trans. was rebuilt and is not the Prob.(don't think)
If this is true, Than what should i be looking for at the Yard ?
"As in what type of other vehicle to remove rear end from"
Was told that no other Trans. will bolt up to that motor !

Did you ever find out what was the noise in the engine?
I dont understand why you want to swap things around either. Which engine do you have? You have said 2 different things on here so it would kinda help if we knew for sure.

Rear End
Yes, Lifters need adjusting.
I'm concentrating on the rear end question now.
As asked before.
The motor seems to be working harder than the Transmission,
Was told that i could change the rear end (Chunk) for one with a different gear, Which would also improve my mileage!
Question " Can i swap the rear end for a different geared one & if so What do i look for, That holds the rear end i need ?

If you are wanting to take gears out of one axle to install in your axle you can't just do it without setting the rearend up.I would suggest if you want a differant gear ratio swap the entire axle I'll guarantee you don't have the tools to install gears in your axle housing properly.I don't suggest trying this project unless you know someone personally who is comfortable with setting up a rearend. You know if you adjust the clacking lifters you may gain some power in the process and avoid the rearend swap.
