Suburu transmission shifting problems

I have a 1995 Suburu Legacy station wagon with 185,000 miles on the engine. It is a 2.2l with a 4-speed automatic transmission. My problem is on cold days(below freezing), the transmission will not shift from 3rd to 4th. Upon the engine warming up, the transmission then does shift and works fine. I even tried to shift the gears using the shifter without any success. I recently had the transmission flushed hoping this would help the problem but it didn't change it at all. Is there something I can do or should I just live with the inconvenience?

I have a 1977 International Terra pickup with close to 400,000 miles on the original motor and transmission. Its to bad they are only lasting 200,000 nowadays.

Doing a search for legacy and just wanted to post this for anyone doing a search that may need this info. The problem stated is normal operation for subaru's. Here is a link the overview of the tranny. Page 10 talks about the no upshift when cold.
