Valve Stem Seal Replacement - 94 Probe

My buddy needs to change the valve stem seals on a 94 Probe 2.0L-16V. Can it be done with the head on the car? I have the hand compressor for valve springs. He's been told the head HAS to come off.

No the head doesn't need to be removed to replace the valve stem seals. To replace the valve stem seals, remove the cams and apply air pressure in the spark plug hole. This keeps the valve up via air pressure while removing the springs and seals. The springs are small and can be pushed by hand or by using a pry bar. Next, remove the valve keepers and retainers to expose the seal. Warning, if done improperly, engine damage might occur.

Good Luck !

Also remember, valve seals is generally just a band-aid for bad valve guides and likely will only be a temporary help.
