Roof Rack
Just curious if anyone knows anything about third party roof racks. I own a 2003 Mazda Protege5 and I bought it w/o the roof rack figuring as I was, that I liked it but couldn't afford it at the time. Got some extra bucks now and called up the folks at my dealership who told me that if I didn't buy the darned thing with a roof rack, I can't get a factory one. Isn't that silly? Anyway, I did a little searching and only found Yakima and Thule. What manufacturer should I go with? They both look pretty uniform and neither make use of the rain gutter the car comes with to facilitate the factory rack. Are there any other manufacturers out there? I'm sorry this isn't a challenging mechanical problem, I swear, my next post will have a major problem in its content. Thanks a mil!

The general concensous I heard is Yakima is better, but not by much, some people like Thule also. It's like a 55-45 (Y-T) bias...
Whatever one you get, make sure you get a fairing with it to reduce wind noise, I had a bike rack on my 89 Prelude and it used to drive me nuts, then I made a ghetto fairing and it was like night and day!
It's your personal desicion.
