Question correct coolant?

Hi,
I just bought a 1997 Ford F150 pick-up with the 4.6L motor.
Could you tell me what type of engine coolant this uses,is it the old green type,or the new red/orange extended type coolant?
Thanks

Did you get the owners manual? You could also check with a Ford dealer.

Well, what color is the coolant now? It won't really matter if it came with extended coolant if someone has added any green stuff. With any contamination, you wouldn't have extended life coolant any more anyway. If it's clean and red now, that answers your question. If it's not, just use green and change it more frequently.

Maybe im wrong, but I dont think Ford offers an extended life coolant. The orange stuff you are referring to is called Dex-Cool. This is a GM specific product. Toyota has their own coolant that is kind of pinkish, but its just regular green with a color change. VW and other European cars use a product called Pentosin. It is unique all its own.
The important thing is to use what is correct for your vehicle. If something else is in there get it flushed and replace with the OE type coolant.
Hope this is helpful to ya,
Billy

Regular green is what it is.
