no heat 96 Sonoma v6

My son has a 1996 GMC Sonoma 4.3 v6 automatic. We are by lake michigan, so its cold up here. His problem is no heat or very little heat. Should he check both heater hoses to the core to see if both hot, radiator cap for a good seal and not loose, coolant level up to snuff, any leaks? Anything I forgot to put on the checklist your welcomed to add on for me. Thanks
By the way, the vehicle sat for six months wrecked before driving last week again.

perhaps...

...you should have him check those things, they're all good, and post back results if you don't find anything...then we can add to your list. check in this order...

coolant level
operating temp
both hoses hot at the core connections
