rear end, Hollander manual help
85 Dodge full sized B 150 van 318 3 speed auto, 294 rear. The rear went on my van and I need to pick a used unit. I,m in Mexico and need to know what will fit. I,d like to go to a higher numerical gear such as a 323 or 355. My rear has 10 bolts, can someone tell me whether a 12 bolt rear will work? I'm hoping to go shopping on Monday. Thanks all.

10 bolts and 12 bolts is chevy terminology
you can have an 8-1/4", 9-1/4", 9-1/4 HD, or a dana 60(9-3/4")
i would stick with the same type rear or you will be changing the end of the driveshaft (u-joint size), length of the driveshaft (pinion shafts are different lengths) , braking bias (front to rear) and you will need different rims and tires, which will be different from the front tires(5 lug vs. 8 lug)you might also want to upgrade the leaf springs to the corrosponding heavier duty rear.
any ratio will work, just the speedo will be off.
it might be time to take all the tires off and set in on some cinder blocks and make a permanent address out of it, LOL.
i'm pretty sure any of those rears will physically bolt in, you would need bigger u-bolts though.

Mike, thanks for the answer. although I'm a little confused. I'm no without a rear end and I'd like to get back to the states where I can have it properly repaired. With a 294 rear ratio I presume it's the smaller rear. The cover has 10 bolts. What do I measure to find out the size¿ IF I can find a rear that measures the same as I have is it possible that a higher number ratio can be in there? I'm now pulling a small, 16 foot trailer. I need some help in knowing what to look for without changing tires or other parts. Thanks

Put the cheapest one in that will fit and get the hell out of Mexico senoir.Lol just my opinion. You aren't eating the worm in the bottom of that bottle are you?You may not get the best selection down there so get what will work at the least expense. If I remember you have been having problems with that van since you got there.

those measurements are the diameter of the ring gear.
you can find any size rear, with any ratio installed.
you would want the same size rear(8-1/4, 9-1/4), but you can get any ratio you find to get running again.
the bigger the size rear, the bigger the housing will be, the stronger it will be, and the bigger cover it will have. you would want to match exactly the cover to your old one, and hope the ratio is better for you. dividing ring gear teeth by pinion teeth is the actual ratio.
buy a vw beetle and drive that home, leave that guzzler down there as a permanent address.
