Failed Smog Test

I have a '87 Buick Century. When I went to have it smogged, it didn't pass because of a faulty C.E.L. light not working. How do I repair it?

key on, engine off---the bulb should be illuminated

engine running---ideally you would want the bulb off.

start by getting to the bulb in there, see if the power or ground is missing to that socket. power comes from a fuse, ground is supplied by the computer.

it could be simply blown out, or someone could have removed the bulb because they didn't feel like fixing the reason for it to be on.
