turn signal wiring on 95 gmc

I am replacing the turn signal switch on my Jimmy and am having a heck of a time pulling apart the electrical wiring "harness". I'm worried about pulling out the wires or breaking the plastic casing. Anyone know an effective way to do this? Thanks

make sure it doesnt have any small clips where the wires attaches to the main harness beside the bottom part of the steering column.....this would be my only suggestion.but i have one but cant tell you about it on here

I believe it passes through a plastic enclosure as it goes down the column. You have to release it from the bottom to slide it up the column.

That signal switch has a good chunk of wire (12" or so) that stays with it. The connector unplugs further down the column. I know it *looks* like it unplugs near the switch itself, but it doesn't.
