Ford F150
I am looking at a 1990 Ford F150 Lariet, it has the 5.0 V8 with A/T and 88,000 miles on it. The question, is this a good engine and transmisson, Not from truck history but just overall as engines. I know certian engines are worse than others or have more problems. The only thing I noticed is, that it had some oil just a little in between the oil pan and transmission, the person said they check oil in between changes and never has to add any, he said might get a drop every now and then. Could this be a rear main seal ? Do you think this would be a problem? Thanks

My 5.0 + A/T has 208,000 mi. and going strong. If you like the truck and think its worth the price, go for it. I also have the oil drip.

Good engine
Easy to work on
I am more familiar with the M/T and a slight rear seal leak is common on those, usually not a problem, just annoying
Usually not worth replacing unless you are also putting in a clutch or something
This engine is basically the 302 from the 60's
It's changed a little, but it has been around a long time
