Piston Rings

I got ahold of a 350ci chevy small block that the guy put chromoly
rings in. The problem is the rings never seated. Does anyone know of a way to seat the rings or do I have to tear it down & have the cylinders honed? It has about 5,000 miles on it.

I would have to say if the rings haven't seated by now something was done incorrectly. Possibly incorrect cylinder wall finish, improper break-in, use of synthetic oil used etc.

Why do think the rings haven't seated?

i was wondering the same thing

the crosshatch in the cylinders almost never disappears, not even after 200,000 miles.

a compression test or a leakdown test is about the only way to tell if the rings are good. or you could measure the ring's endgaps and see if they were correct from the beginning.
