F350 hard to crank.

I have a Ford F350 that I having problems cranking. I have changed the glow plugs and fuel filter and the glow plug control relay. I have checked all the lines in the fuel system. The problem is that when it sits for about 8 hours, it seems like no fuel is getting to aspirator, but it cranks right up if it is sprayed with ether. Is there suppose to be a check valve or something in the fuel line to keep the fuel there when the engine is not running. If so, can I just put one inline to do this.

Sounds like you are losing the fuel prime to me.If you are sucking air on the low pressure side of the pump you can't crank fast enough to build any pressure.Do you have power at the glow plugs?A word of caution don't ever use starting fluid in a diesel engine. If you do you might as well drive it without any oil also since either way shes gonna blow apart.
