Brakes

I'm putting on new pads and I need to know what kind and size of socket do I need to remove the caliper bolts on the front brakes of a 2000 Durango?

it's a six point 'allen' socket, of a weird dimension. i use a torx t-45 with no problems.

when you reinstall the caliper, push it down firmly against spring pressure(the spring on the pad itself) and start the caliper bolts with your fingers ONLY, it helps to use a light to see what you're doing too.

all i'll say is, it is VERY easy to 'try' to start the bolts, and start ratcheting on them(thinking they're started), and they are at the slightest angle, and they will crossthread very easy. then it's heli-coil time. trust me.

Thanks Mike - I'll try again - I have a T-45 and a T-40 and I couldn't get either one to seat, but I'll try again.
