Subaru 2.5L Head Gasket recall

Do you have any info on 1999 - 2002 Subaru 2.5 litre engine recall to add a chemical to cooling system to prevent/delay head gasket failure?

This recall will also extend the engine warranty to 100K miles or 7 years. Is this basically just a stop-leak additive? Is this another problem with the chemical mix of the coolant like the GM DexCool situation, attacking the head gasket or the head itself? Thank you.

i think the subaru dealer would be the person to answer those questions, unless someone on here knows quite a bit about them.

as a rule...

...recalls are to correct safety issues with automobiles. they do occasionally address durability issues with special policies and they may or may not let you know about it. in the case of a recall they are bound by law to notify the owner...special policies are good will.

i searched alldata for information pertaining to your subject and found nothing...but alldata filters bulletins so...as mike stated above, the subaru dealer is the bottom line for info...or you could call the customer service phone number located in your warranty booklet/owners manual.

one other thing...many folks confuse TSB's (technical service bulletins) with recalls...they are not the same thing. recalls are for safety related issues...TSB's are updated service information provided by the manufacturer to assist technicians with diagnosis and/or repair
