check engine light

My check engine light just came on, and I could feel a loss of power immediately. The first thing I checked were my fluids, all of which were fine. I pulled my #1 spark plug, and found oil in the housing. I then checked the rest of them, and they were fine. I know that there are plug seals, and am hoping that it's the problem, but before I pull the valve cover off, I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about what I should look for. I'm an electrician by trade, so this is not really my area of expertise. any Ideas?

Please post make/model/year/engine and maybe some one will have an answer. If it is 1996 or up go to Autozone and get the codes read and give us the numbers of the code.

Can't make an intelligent guess unless we know the year, make, and model, and the code from the computer that caused the MIL to light.
