oil filters

i have an '02 hyundai sonata. I am going to start doing the oil changes myself to save money. is it a good idea to buy the hyundai filter rather than a filter from napa or schucks, or are they just trying to get me to buy from them!!!!

Can't speak for the Hyundai filters, but I ALWAYS use Honda filters in my Accords ('86 and '88).

I've used NAPA Silver and Gold w/o problems. WIX as well.

Best to stay away from FRAM though.

I will second that!

I would not use a Fram oil filter if you gave it to me.

The factory filter will cost more than most but if in the un-likely event you have engine damage due to an oil filter failure (rare but it can happen) they would not be able to deny warranty coverage due to using another brand oil filter.

I would use the factory filter for warranty purposes. Also get a notebook and document the date and mileage of each oil change.
