99 alero bad mpg??

99 alero, my mpg is under 15 in town, it was not this bad before. I have had it checked out, air filter is fine. What can it be??? If it is just like this, how can I make it more gas economical with aftermarket parts??
2.4l 4door...........the engine too small for the car???

A couple of possibilities come to mind:

Bad fuel injector(s) - dripping fuel.
Bad fuel pressure regulator - ruptured diaphragm.
Bad O2 sensor - failed lean causing ECM to command rich.
MAP or MAF Sensor bad if so equipped.

Is the Check Engine Light on?

Any other symptoms besides the poor mileage?

Sluggish could correlate to "rich" fuel condition.

Suggest looking for ruptured/leaky fuel pressure regulator diaphragm and/or drippy injectors.

It would be nice to know what the O2 sensor is doing and what the fuel trim stats look like if you can get someone to put a DSO on the O2 and scan the PCM for the fuel trim stats.
