Vibration Too

I have a '96 Geo Prism and when I reach a high speed of say like 70 miles per hour, the steering wheel begins to shake. It becomes really noticeable when I begin to slow down from that speed. What can the problem be?

Sounds like you have a wheel "out of balance". Make sure all the tire pressures are correct and try rotating the front tires to the rear. If the problem goes away, you either lost a balance weight, or in my wife's case, you hit a pot hole and bent the rim...
If you still have a vibration at high speeds, your front end might need an alignment. I would check out these easy 2 things first, just my opinion, I'm not an expert...

Your answer was "right on" except for this part. Alignment cannot cause a shimmy or vibration.
