GMC signal light question

I have a '95 GMC Jimmy with 102,000 miles. For some reason, the blinker lights blink very slowly. However, the battery seems to be fine as is everything else electrical. My question- what is it that controls the "blinking" aspect of a signal light, and is it something that can be replaced to rectify this problem?

You may have a flasher unit going bad. They're located on the fuse block under the dash. Cost - about $5.00.

I'll give that a try. By the way, what exactly does the flasher unit look like- are they silver and made of metal? Thanks, Matt!!

Most are silver, some are yellow but on your van it should be round and silver if still the original.
