Noisy Quad 4

I have a 90 Grand Am LE with a Quad 4 engine and am getting noise coming from inside the large cover on the left side of the engine. It sounds bad but the car still runs good. Does this car have one of those OHC belts that need changed every so often? If so how difficult is it for a Saturday mechanic to do? Any other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Even worse......It has an extremely long chain. It's not that hard if you've ever worked with timing components before. As long as you understand how to set up timing makes, it's easy.

Some amount of noise is normal with a long chain but obviously when it gets worn, it gets worse. It's probably going to take an experienced ear to determine what's excessive on that car.
