If you have verified the oil pressure readings with a mechanical hand held guage I would remove the oil pan and check the pickup screen for a restriction.Clumps of sludge in the screen or the pan.

If you have a 3.0 I think the pump is driven by the crankshaft. If the pressure goes down at higher rpm it would stand to reason the pump is being starved by a clogged pickup screen.

davo is correct on the 3.0L V6
4cyl.....the distributor is turned by the oil pump, so if the engine runs, it's a safe assumption the oil pump is working.
clogged screen, worn bearings, worn pump....all possibilities. a direct reading gauge is the next step.
(of course you could have one bad cell in the battery, making the alternator work harder, making the computer work harder, making the belt work harder, making the muffler work harder, making my cordless drill work harder, making the high tide work harder, making the gauge act like it is)
jim millett, ignore what's in the parentheses above please.
