6x9 speakers into a 6 1/2 housing
i bought jbl power series 6x9 speakers real cheap, too good to pass up. Online it said that my 91' honda accord lx should have 6x9 housings. When i got them and went to go check out the installation process, i find that i have holes for 6 1/2 inch speakers instead on my rear deck. Obviously the 6x9's don't fit into these holes. can i building a speaker housing for the speakers and just secure that to my rear deck or is my only option to cut the metal into bigger holes? What should i do?

You could just take a piece of 3/4" plywood or a piece of 1x8 etc. Cut a hole in it as large as you can that will still allow you to mount it to the rear deck. Then screw the new speaker to the bottom after it is mounted to the car.
Make sure you do not have any clearance problems first. A real audiophile might think you are goofey but I do not see any reason why this won't work.
