Mazda 626 1986 change CV joints and oil

Hi there I'm kind of new at car repair I want to change the CV joint and oil and filter on my car, and would like some help so I don't mess anything up. One question I have is about taking off or putting the oil filter on, I've seen friends do it with their hands is this right or do I need a tool?

Depends on how tight it was put on; sometimes you can get it off by hand, but most times a filter wrench is a lot easier.

On the cv's. Ever done any work that advanced? It can be harder than it looks. Might want to pick up a good repair manual if you don't already own one (Haynes or Chilton's). When you do them, do both sides and use the complete axle assemblies.

You should never use any type of tool to tighten an oil filter on a gasoline engine. Diesels are a different story.
As tow guy said.... cv boots are pretty advanced if you have never done any major auto repair before. The hardest thing about it however is getting the axle nut off. The easiest thing is to replace the entire axle shaft rather than disassembling the shaft and replacing the boots. That takes some knowledge and skill to get it right. Plus its way messy.
Hope this helps ya,
Billy
