accelarator problem

I have a problem with the accelarator for my 1992 Mercury,Topaz.
I try to push the pedal but it only goes down so far then it stops and won't go any further.Any assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the cable may have become unwrapped from the pulley it rides on. It's probably jamming along side of it. Look where it attaches at the throttle body.

maybe

This is a remote possibility but it happened to me my floor mat rolled up and got under the gas pedal. If thats not it just get a helper and push it down and have a look to see if you can find the bind.
